THE GUNKS

In New York, about a 2 hour drive from New York City, near the town of New Paltz. This is one of the most famous places in the USA for trad climbing. Bulletproof granite with lots of horizontal cracks/creases, making protection quite easy. There is also a LOT of bouldering here, which I have yet to touch.

Where to Stay

The Samuel F. Pryor III Shawangunk Gateway Campground is very close to the Trapps area, which is kind of the standout well-known area.

For trad climbing: This place is incredibly sandbagged. But really awesome.
