In the USA now. This would be day 41 for us if we weren’t already out of Shanghai.

One thing I want to write here, today, is a learning. A lesson from the lockdown.

The thing I learned:

Never be surprised by how far the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) will take things. Never underestimate the lengths to which they will go. They will always exceed expectations in terms of extreme, big, sweeping centralized policy making, and leave you standing there looking like an idiot, asking “can they do that?! that’s illegal!!“.

The answer is:

• Yes, they can do that.
• No, it’s not “illegal” because they decide what is illegal and legal.

It’s like the prestige — the man who cut off his finger for the sake of fully playing out a magic trick.
