Here’s a simple and effective way to cook a rib eye steak using your frying pan, stove, and oven:
Ingredients:
- Rib eye steak (1-1.5 inches thick)
- Salt
- Freshly ground black pepper
- Olive oil or vegetable oil
- 2-3 cloves of garlic (optional)
- 1-2 sprigs of fresh rosemary or thyme (optional)
- 2 tablespoons of butter (optional)
Instructions:
Season the Steak:
- Remove the rib eye from the fridge 30-60 minutes before cooking to bring it to room temperature.
- Pat the steak dry with a paper towel.
- Generously season both sides with salt and freshly ground black pepper. You can also add a sprinkle of garlic powder if you like.
Preheat Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
Sear the Steak:
- Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat and add a small amount of oil (enough to coat the bottom of the pan).
- When the oil is hot and shimmering, place the rib eye in the pan.
- Sear the steak for 2-3 minutes on each side until it has a nice brown crust.
Add Garlic, Herbs, and Butter (Optional):
- If you’re using garlic, rosemary, thyme, or butter, add them to the pan after flipping the steak.
- Baste the steak with the melted butter and herbs while it finishes searing.
Transfer to the Oven:
- Once the steak is seared on both sides, place the frying pan with the steak in the preheated oven.
- Cook the steak in the oven for 5-7 minutes for medium-rare, 7-9 minutes for medium, or longer if you prefer it well-done.
- Use a meat thermometer for accuracy:
- Medium-rare: 130-135°F (54-57°C)
- Medium: 135-145°F (57-63°C)
Rest the Steak:
- Remove the steak from the oven and transfer it to a cutting board.
- Let it rest for 5-10 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute before slicing and serving.
Enjoy your perfectly cooked rib eye steak!
