Here’s a simple and effective way to cook a rib eye steak using your frying pan, stove, and oven:

Ingredients:

  • Rib eye steak (1-1.5 inches thick)
  • Salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic (optional)
  • 1-2 sprigs of fresh rosemary or thyme (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons of butter (optional)

Instructions:

Season the Steak:

  1. Remove the rib eye from the fridge 30-60 minutes before cooking to bring it to room temperature.
  2. Pat the steak dry with a paper towel.
  3. Generously season both sides with salt and freshly ground black pepper. You can also add a sprinkle of garlic powder if you like.

Preheat Oven:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Sear the Steak:

  1. Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat and add a small amount of oil (enough to coat the bottom of the pan).
  2. When the oil is hot and shimmering, place the rib eye in the pan.
  3. Sear the steak for 2-3 minutes on each side until it has a nice brown crust.

Add Garlic, Herbs, and Butter (Optional):

  1. If you’re using garlic, rosemary, thyme, or butter, add them to the pan after flipping the steak.
  2. Baste the steak with the melted butter and herbs while it finishes searing.

Transfer to the Oven:

  1. Once the steak is seared on both sides, place the frying pan with the steak in the preheated oven.
  2. Cook the steak in the oven for 5-7 minutes for medium-rare, 7-9 minutes for medium, or longer if you prefer it well-done.
  3. Use a meat thermometer for accuracy:
    • Medium-rare: 130-135°F (54-57°C)
    • Medium: 135-145°F (57-63°C)

Rest the Steak:

  1. Remove the steak from the oven and transfer it to a cutting board.
  2. Let it rest for 5-10 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute before slicing and serving.

Enjoy your perfectly cooked rib eye steak!
